Guide her ship
There are times when people forget that the youth needs some guidance to make sure they stay on the right track. This is one of those pieces where I tried to take the role of someone who tries to guide the next generation.
This entire poem was based on a song from Gordon Ross – Guide her ship he is also a Youtuber who creates his own songs. I loved the energy and truth that was put into the song and I tried to translate it into a spoken word poem the best I can.
This world can be a very dark place, and if left unchecked it can swallow you whole and devour every bit of your innocence. Each step you take towards your future is one that can lead to a very dark and crushing place. That’s why you have people around you to hold your hand and make sure you don’t stray from the path. But at times people forget that others need help, that some people don’t have it as good as others.
Make sure to Guide her ship in the right direction.
Being stuck in a war zone inflicted upon you by invaders, your land ravaged by an industry that only takes from you. Born into a ghetto based on a history you have no control over. All of those things create a situation where love and hope become small glimmers of light.
That’s why I tried to end this poem on the note that you should always be in control of your own ship. Take control of your own destiny, be in charge of your own fate and never let your happiness be depended on others. Your self-esteem should come from yourself and only yourself. By placing your esteem and happiness in the hands of others, you’re effectively giving them control of who you are and what you will become. So be yourself all the way through.
